Ms. Gallant-Bernard was the Chief Administrative Officer for Family and Community Services, Hospitals Services West. and a member of the Senior Managment group. From April 2007 to April 2008, Arlene was on secondment to Accreditation Canada as senior surveyor/educator. During that period, Arlene was involved with the Qmentum process, recruitment of new surveyors, mentoring new surveyors and team leaders, as well as education and orientation.

For seven years prior, Arlene was the director of patient and community health services for a regional health authority. She has been involved in integration and collaboration within the West Prince Health Authority, as well as across Prince Edward Island.

Throughout her career, Arlene has held numerous positions, including that of Executive Director, CEO, Director of Community Health, Director of Nursing, Nurse Consultant and Educator. She has worked in large urban centres as well as rural regions, including First Nations communities and corrections. Arlene has experience in health systems, including acute care, public health, home care, addictions, restorative care, adult protection, long-term care and primary health.

She holds a Registered Nursing diploma, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master's in Adult Education, certification in operating room technique and management, certification with the Canadian College of Health Leaders, and is a Certified Executive Coach.

Arlene has been awarded national recognition by the Canadian Nurses Foundation and has received the Agnew Pickham Award for academic excellence in health care leadership from the Canadian Hospital Association and Canadian College of Health Leaders.

Arlene has participated on numerous regional, provincial and national boards. She is past president of the Association of Nurses of PEI, past vice-president of the Canadian Nurses Protective Society, and a past board member on the Canadian Nurses Association and the Canadian Home Care Association Boards.
